Why One Tree Planted?
We have partnered with One Tree Planted to help fulfill our goal of planting a tree for every bag of coffee we sell.
One Tree Planted is a registered US non-profit with a simple mission. They make it simple for individuals and companies on a mission to plant trees to get involved.
With One Tree Planted, a dollar plants a tree.
So that’s what we’re doing. One dollar from each bag of coffee goes to One Tree Planted.
One dollar, one tree.
One Tree Planted Projects
One Tree Planted also has projects that fit our mission to connect coffee, surf, and the environment.
Their projects in Central America, Indonesia, and Brazil represent some of the most cherished surf locations and prized coffee growing regions on the planet.
We’ve tried to connect these dots.
Purchase our Costa Rican coffee and a tree gets planted in Central America.
Purchase our Brazilian coffee and a tree gets planted in Brazil.
Purchase our Indonesian coffee and a tree gets planted in Indonesia.
It’s that simple.
Protect the places you love.
We need to help protect the places we love, but often that means supporting their economies as much as their ecologies.
Coffee is often a major export and source of income for these tropical surf paradises (along with our tourism dollars). When we aren’t actually there on a surf trip, we can choose to support these countries with our coffee purchases.
Climate Change And Surf
We are all already aware of the effects of climate change and other human activity on our oceans. Whether it is the bleaching of coral reefs, overfishing, algae blooms, or direct pollution run-off, the destructive impact of our species is everywhere.
Reversing global deforestation affects not only the land, but the ocean as well.
Mangroves and forests do so much more than capture carbon and clean the air we breathe.
Mature trees help with erosion and runoff, they keep the monsoon rains from destroying watersheds that wash into the ocean.
As a result, planting trees is one of the most effective tools we have against the climate changes that are affecting our favorite surf spots.
Climate Change and Coffee
Coffee farmers around the globe are on the front lines of changes in climate.
As if life as a coffee farmer wasn’t hard enough, coffee production is especially vulnerable to changes in climate.
